Highlighted events
Some events on DC Tech Events are highlighted. A highlighted event gets a line in the Highlighted box at the top of the homepage, and on the category, week and month pages it belongs to. It also appears in the Monday newsletter, for subscribers whose category and region preferences match it. It still shows in its usual place in the day-by-day list, with the same small label.
A highlight runs for the 21 days before the event starts, and through its last day. A three-day conference stays highlighted until it ends.
Two kinds, always labeled
- Editor's pick is an event we chose to point out. Nobody paid for it.
- Paid means someone paid $10 to highlight it. Usually that's the organizer, but we don't name buyers.
Highlight an event for $10
To highlight an event, find it on the calendar, open its page, and choose Highlight this event.
- In-person events only. Virtual events can't be highlighted.
- One occurrence per purchase. For a weekly or monthly event, you're buying one date.
- Live without review. It goes up as soon as PayPal confirms the payment and the site rebuilds, usually within minutes. We take down anything that isn't a real DC-area tech event, and refund the payment.
- Late is fine. You can buy a highlight at any point before the event. It costs the same, and checkout tells you how many days and newsletters are left.
- If the event moves, the highlight moves with it. If it disappears from the calendar, we'll email you.
- Refunds are handled by hand. Just email Ross.
